This clear-gold vinyl record is one of just 1,000 special-edition copies of the Icebird album “The Abandoned Lullaby” that will hit the shelves in honor of Record Store Day on April 18. Students from MAD Dragon Records are working with Philadelphia-based recording artist RJD2, whose song “A Beautiful Mine” is known widely as the theme to the hit AMC series “Mad Men.”
In 2011 RJD2, the stage name of Ramble Jon Krohn, teamed with fellow Philadelphian Aaron Livingston to form Icebird. While “The Abandoned Lullaby,” was well-received by critics, it remains the duo’s only album. As part of the international observation of Record Store Day, MAD Dragon Records and RJD2’s label RJ’s Electrical Connection put together a reworked, vinyl version of album with two new tracks.
Here’s a preview of one of the vinyl tracks called “I’m Green”
MAD Dragon students helped redesign the cover art and put together a marketing plan for the album, which will be available while supplies last at 90 stores nation-wide, including several in Philadelphia. Students from the record label’s marketing wing, MAD Dragon Media, are hosting a release party with RJD2 and Livingston in attendance on Thursday, April 16 at Drexel’s URBN Center Annex. In addition to hearing the premiere spin of the record, those in attendance will be eligible to win free copies.
