Allow Us to (Re)Introduce Ourselves

iStock_000068209529_Large copyHey there.

Nice to meet you. We’re the Drexel News Blog team.

We’ve been quietly hanging out in the corner for a while now, trying to get a feel for the room. But we’ve got a fresh new look and we’re finally ready to officially introduce ourselves and join the party!

A little about us: We launched in 2012 as an informal way to share news, stories and photos from around the university to supplement the information from our official media relations channels like DrexelNow and @DrexelNews. This blog is a way of telling stories that don’t fit those formats and providing a behind-the-scenes look at how those stories develop.

We also use this as a space to offer commentary and insight from our faculty experts on the biggest news stories of the day — from the heated 2016 presidential race to the skyrocketing cost of healthcare and the latest Supreme Court rulings.

We do this through a variety of formats, including Quick Takes that give you a glimpse at what our faculty experts are saying on hot topics in the media, Drexel Snapshots that offer an inside look at life at Drexel, Q+As with experts on the news of the day, Opinion pieces by faculty members and even ICYMI round-ups so you never miss a thing.

To date, some of our popular posts range from those on technology, including a laptop vending machine and a student-created scholarship app that made an appearance on ABC’s “Shark Tank,” and those on fashion, such as “ugly sweaters” and the accuracy of the 1920s looks in “The Great Gatsby” movie. Other top posts explain that your coloring book is not your therapist, explore a possible new cause for Alzheimer’s and bring to life the world’s largest video game.

So if you like food, puppies, children and dinosaurs (lots and lots of dinosaurs) — and really, who doesn’t? — or if you like getting an insider’s take on what’s going on in our world, you might just like what we’ve got to offer.

So take a look around, read some posts, check out some photos. And if you like what you see, sign up for our email updates — if you haven’t already — so our latest posts come right to your inbox. Share us on social media. Use us a resource. We’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for letting us crash the party.

Niki, Britt, Alex, Lauren and Frank
