Drexel Snapshot: Saxbys and Drexel Celebrate the Opening of Student-Run Café

While many students find jobs as baristas during college, Drexel University students—through a new partnership with Saxbys—will have the opportunity to manage a student-run Saxbys Coffee shop.

On April 13, Saxbys Chief Executive Officer and Founder Nick Bayer joined Drexel President John A. Fry, Congressman Chaka Fattah and Dean of Drexel’s Close School of Entrepreneurship Donna De Carolis to celebrate the opening of the nation’s first entirely student-run café where students earn credit through a University cooperative education (co-op) program.

The Saxbys café, located near Drexel’s campus, is the outcome of a partnership between Saxbys and Drexel’s Close School of Entrepreneurship. Through the partnership, students will be able to work in the café in supervisory roles as part of their six-month co-op experience.

Also at the opening was café manager Kelsey Goslin, a junior at Drexel who has assumed full responsibility for operations, and Drexel student Meghan Regan, the café’s inaugural manager who had a key role in hiring and developing the café’s student team. The celebration wouldn’t be complete without Drexel’s Dragon mascot “Mario the Magnificent.”
