This is the latest in a series of new initiatives for the Drexel Libraries under the leadership of Dean of Libraries Danuta Nitecki. Since joining Drexel, Nitecki has made headlines with her vision for the future of Drexel’s library and libraries in general. In 2010, Nitecki introduced a personal librarian for all of Drexel’s incoming undergraduate students, and in July 2011 spearheaded the opening of the Library Learning Terrace, which houses no books but provides “knowledge transfer” to students and staff. “Libraries are not only meant to house books,” according to Nitecki. “They also house learning.”
Most recently, the Libraries removed the reference desk in an effort to better assist students seeking consultation.
The evolution of the library will continue. Nitecki just released the Libraries strategic plan for 2012-2017 revealing that there is much more to come. Get updated on the latest by following the Libraries blog at: http://www.library.drexel.edu/blogs/newsevents/
